“Xiang-Sharing Home Flavor” Design and Social Innovation Exhibition opens on June 19th at Expo Gate, a symbol of Milan Expo located in front of the Milan landmark - Sforza Castle. The exhibition is hosted by the People’s Government of Hunan Province, China, organized by the Hunan Provincial Science & Technology Department and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hunan Sub-council, and co-organized by Hunan University, China-Italy Design and Innovation Center (CIDIC), and Markor Home Furnishings.

The exhibition possesses content under the auspices of eight different themes and one of them is “Dong Brocade and Paper-cutting”. This section displays hand-made books and videos concerning Dong brocade and paper-cutting, Suoshuo scarfs and handbags. Created by independent designers, “Suoshuo” is a brand whose products were all made by handcrafters.

Dong Brocade and Paper-cutting display seeks to record and promote the weakening traditional handcraft by videos, texts and books; it also tries to reinvigorate the traditional handcraft by exploring the means of integrating traditions into modern life.
